Attendance Policy

At Lincoln Elementary school attendance is extremely important to us! School attendance is required by law, but more importantly it is a critical predictor of student success in school.

Research shows that children who miss 18 or more days of school (10% of the school year) in a given school year are :

● less likely to graduate from high school.

● likely to have lower academic performance in future grades.

● likely to fall short of reading proficiency by third grade which is an important indicator of a student’s future success in school.

● more likely to have poor attendance in later years.

Missing only two days a month can very quickly add up to 18 or more days!

USD 290 Attendance Policy

When a student is absent from school the parent should notify the school by 8:30 A.M. If we are not notified, the school will attempt to contact the parent or guardian to determine the reason for the absence. The administration reserves the right to approve or deny excuses presented by the parent (s) of the student. The administration or designee may request an absence note from the doctor if the student is gone more than three days. Students shall be considered tardy for nonattendance until 8:30 A.M. and will be considered absent after 8:30 A.M. If students leave before 2:50 P.M. in the afternoon they will be counted absent for the afternoon.

Students who miss 10 days or more per school year will not be excused, unless verified by a doctor’s note.

All children enrolled in USD 290 are required by law to attend. A child is considered truant after meeting one of the following criteria: three consecutive unexcused days, five or more unexcused school days in any semester, or seven unexcused days in a school year. (Kansas 72-1113) The building principal shall report students who are inexcusably absent from school to the local office of Kansas Department for Children and Family Services and the Franklin County Attorney.
